Department of Accountancy
The Department of Accounting has been preparing individuals for careers in business, including professional accounting, since 1927. Faculty have a long-standing tradition of interaction with a wide range of accounting professionals. Department faculty were instrumental in establishing the North Dakota Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Professional accountants face a variety of challenges and opportunities in their careers. To achieve success as a professional accountant, individuals must have a soundfoundation in the liberal arts and sciences, a broad general understanding of business, a solid technical base in accounting, and a well developed ability to communicate in oral and written form. The accounting programs offered by the faculty provide the range of experience and knowledge needed for success as a professional accountant.
Kulas and Kopenhaver Memorial Accounting Center
For over 48 years, Ludwig Kulas and R.D. Koppenhaver dedicated their time and energy to the department of accountancy at UND. “Kope & Louie” led thousands of students into the world of business and made the department what it is today – one of the region’s most highly respected business schools. Many of us can attribute our individual success to their guidance.
To honor these two great men, an accounting classroom was remodeled and named the Kulas Koppenhaver Memorial Accounting Learning Center. Many alumni told us that a classroom wasn’t enough . . . alumni wanted to do more. On October 27, 2004, a drive to establish the Kulas Koppenhaver Memorial Endowment. This endowment will specifically support classroom technology and priority needs within the department of accountancy at UND. Continued support to this endowment will make an impact on students today, and tomorrow.
