| Greetings! September 26, 2006
On behalf of the Department of Marketing, once again, a hearty welcome back. We hope your semester is going well, that you’re making steady progress toward the completion of the Marketing major, and that you’re “on track” with graduation planning.
This edition of our Newsletter will be brief. It’s devoted to your immediate interests in registration for Spring and Summer 2007, and our course offerings. Questions? Feel free to talk with Judy, Linda, or any of our faculty between now and the usual sign-up period beginning in early November. Note that the Spring Schedule (all departments) is expected to issue on the Registrar’s website on October 11th. We’re getting this out to you earlier and earlier each year in order to aid your planning for the year, not just the most immediate registration period.
As soon as we conclude our internal review of the Marketing curriculum, we hope to be able to make longer term commitments to what will be offered, whichsemesters courses will be taught, and a clearer strategy as to whyyou should consider them as part of your plan for the major. This should be put into place beginning after the first of the year. More on that later… Now, to the Spring of ’07…

Summer Schedule, 2007
The Summer 2007 has been expanded. It includes courses not typically offered. The Department has discussed the need to expand the Summer Session in order to assist you in expediting your graduation, providing you the opportunity to consider and achieve double majors, and make the most effective use of our limited faculty resources. We’re pleased to offer double the number of courses this coming summer and hope that this will provide you considerably more flexibility in your scheduling. We hope to continue, if not expand this in summers to come. Thus, if you are unable to get into a course this spring, think carefully about taking one or more summer courses as a very good strategy to stay on track, or, provide you with an opportunity to take additional electives (or score a major) that you otherwise would have thought impossible to do!
The lineup is such that this summer you could “knock-out” two courses required for the major (Consumer Behavior and International), or, for those just getting into the major, take the 305 entry-course. Personal Marketing—201—is popular across the campus (required of some non-business majors), and recommended as a career prep course. And, an internship or co-op education experience would make for a great complement!
All courses will be offered during the 1st 6-week session.

In Sum
The Marketing Department is pleased to be able to offer an expanding selection of required- and elective-courses during the Spring session. And, we’ve made a strong effort to increase our summer offerings. The Department is pleased to say that the popularity of the Marketing major continues to grow—at latest count, 152! We have had to scramble a bit to maintain the number of courses and sections as a result, but we are, as you’ve seen, developing strategies not only to keep you on pace, but allow you to make a little lemonade from what otherwise might be lemons!
