Dave Yearwood, Ph.D., CSIT is an Associate Professor and chair of the Technology Department at the University of North Dakota. Yearwood has been teaching in higher education for almost 21 years and his experience reaches across two academic tracks—Technology and Higher Education. In Technology, Dave’s focus is on electronic control systems and the effect of technology utilization for consumer and commercial use. In Higher Education, Yearwood taught graduate education courses in curriculum development, assessment, adult learners, and instructional technology.

Yearwood’s study/research and publications (including a book chapter on Podcasts) on instructional technology focuses primarily on electronic pedagogy—how faculty infuse presentation or other technologies into their practice to connect and engage students, enhance their understanding of course content, and promote dialogue that leads to a critical examination of a topic/subject under examination. His study of electronic controls is focused primarily on the creation of “smart systems” aided by computers.

Dr. Yearwood was presented with the outstanding teacher award in the College of Business and Public Administration (CoBPA) on two occasions, earned the coveted teaching, service, and scholarship award (CoBPA), was nominated at the university level for outstanding graduate and undergraduate teaching awards and was listed several times in the Who’s Who Among America’s College Teachers.

Dave is an education consultant and has conducted numerous workshops—regional, national, and international—on the use of technology to facilitate purposeful learning. Dave’s experience in two disciplines has him conducting workshops for departments, colleges, or other entities including: Center Community Colleges (three campuses), Medcenter One (a bachelorette nursing education college), Minnesota West Community Colleges (five campuses); LouisianaState University at Eunice; to lineman training for Minnkota Power Cooperative Inc. Dr. Yearwood was been a featured invited presenter at the Teaching Professor conference (three times) and is currently a conference board member. Dave recently (2009) conducted a four-hour pre-conference workshop on Electronic Pedagogy to some 60 attendees at the Teaching Professor conference in Washington DC. Dr. Yearwood also has extensive experience designing and developing instructional multimedia modules as stand-alone units or as supplements for use in blended classrooms. He currently records podcasts for courses he teaches and leads a podcast called “statistically speaking” which is posted on UND iTunes University.
