- How many credits are required to complete the degree?
The UND College of Business and Public Administration MBA is 32 credits (35 with a concentration) plus any Common Body of Knowledge / MBA Prerequisite Curriculum deficiencies that have to be completed because the courses were not part of the applicant’s undergraduate program and/or they had them and didn’t do well enough.
- Are all the courses three credits?
Yes, MBA courses are currently three credits. An independent study is 2 credits.
- How many courses can I take each semester?
A full course load for a graduate student is nine credit hours in a semester or in a summer session. A graduate student may carry no more than sixteen credit hours per semester.
- Are Graduate Assistantships Available?
Yes, a limited number of Graduate Assistantships are available. Most assistantships are half-time assistantships which require 15 to 20 hours of work per week. A quarter-time assistant requires 7 ½ to 10 hours per week.
For the 2007-2008 academic school year, qualified students may receive financial support in the form of a Graduate Assistantship (GA) or Board of Higher Education Scholarship. Graduate Assistantship stipends for two semesters are about $11,802 for half-time appointments and $5,901 for quarter-time appointments. GA appointments include a tuition waiver and health insurance.
Assistantships are available in most departments offering a graduate degree.
- How do I apply for a Graduate Assistantship?To apply for a Graduate Assistantship, submit a resume and letter requesting an assistantship to the graduate advisor.
- How many courses can I take as a Graduate Assistant?
A quarter-time/half-time assistantship permits a student to carry a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 credits of graduate work each semester.
- How long does it take to complete the MBA program?
The MBA program can be completed within 1 to 2 years, but 2 years is common.
- What concentrations are available?
Currently, students have a choice of two concentrations: accounting and international business.
- Are you accredited?
The College of Business and Public Administration is one of a very select group of schools in the world whose graduate MBA program and undergraduate business programs are accredited by the AACSB International.
- What is AACSB International?
AACSB International stands for The Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AACSB is a not-for-profit corporation of educational institutions, corporations, and organizations devoted to the promotion and improvement of higher education in business administration and management.
Accreditation from AACSB is a significant accomplishment, affirming high standards, strong faculty, and active research programs. UND’s College of Business and Public Administration is one of approximately 450-plus schools out of 1,400 in the United States accredited by AACSB International.
- Is the TOEFL test score required?
Yes, International students with English as a second language must complete the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination with a score of 550 or better for the paper examination or 213 or better for the computer examination.
- What is the average GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) score of accepted applicants?
The average GMAT score for a Full Time student is 511 and a Part Time student is 545.
- What is the minimum GMAT score expected?
Effective July 1, 2007, the minimum GMAT score expected will be 500. Those being admitted under the Combined Model must complete the GMAT with a score that equals or exceeds an overall total score of 550. Under no circumstances will applicants with GMAT scores below 450 (500) for students under the combined 3/2 model) be recommended for admission.
- My undergraduate grade point average was 2.8, what GMAT score do I need?
Applicants who fail to meet the minimum grade point average or GMAT requirements, but who otherwise show high potential for success may be considered for admission to Provisional Status, provided that they meet one of the following indices:
1.
A composite index score of at least 1010, determined by the formula: (GMAT) + [200 x (overall undergraduate gpa)].
2.
A composite index score of at least 1060, determined by the formula: (GMAT) + [200 x (last two years or equivalent undergraduate gpa)].
- What do I need to be admitted in Approved Status?
Admission to Approved Status requires that all graduate school standards are meet, a 500 GMAT score (550 for the combined program), overall grade point average of at least 3.0 or at least 3.25 for the last two years, or equivalent, of undergraduate work (based on a 4.0 scale), and satisfactory completion of the Common Body of Knowledge / MBA Prerequisite Curriculum).
- What does it mean if I am admitted in Provisional Status?Applicants who show high potential for success but do not meet the GMAT or grade point requirements may be considered for admission to Provisional Status. After any deficiencies are taken care of the student will then be moved to Accepted Status.
- Can a person test out or pass out of any courses due to years of experience?
The College of Business and Public Administration does not give credit for life experience. If you have acquired the knowledge of a course, you can attempt to earn credit by examination. To learn what courses are available to test out of you can visit with the Graduate Advisor.
- My undergraduate grade point average is 3.95 and I have over 10 years business experience; do I need to that the GMAT?
Yes, the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score is part of the admission data needed to make an admission determination and therefore required for all applicants.
- What is the application deadline?
The College of Business and Public Administration uses a “rolling” admission. Students may begin in the Fall, Spring or Summer. It is recommended that applications be submitted as early as possible to ensure admission and full consideration for financial aid.
- Is there an application fee?
Yes, there is a $35.00 non-refundable application fee.
