On behalf of the faculty involved with the Master of Public Administration
program at the University of North Dakota I want to welcome you to our home
page. We hope this helps prospective and current students, alumni, citizens, colleagues to get acquainted with our program. It is the only MPA program in North Dakota. It was established in 1976 and serves students on the main campus in Grand Forks and the state capital in Bismarck through the use of interactive video technology. The interaction of in-service students, along with traditional students provides a great synergy. Students with practical experience can help novice students integrate theory and practice, while traditional students bring a wealth of knowledge of recent academic developments.
The core of the program resides in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration. The department works to provide a generalist degree in public administration. Students with special interests can gain specific foci by drawing on the expertise of other departments at the university. It also offers a track in Health Administration as well as a JD/MPA option. Our students come from a broad variety of backgrounds, from accountants to political scientists to zoologists. They also work at every level of government, as well as in the nonprofit sector. Some go on to work in the private sector.
Our faculty come from some of the best universities in the U. S. While everyone in the department has an active research agenda which reflects interests in both pure and applied research, we pride ourselves on being a teaching department. The department has won university awards for its teaching. Because our program is relatively small, students have easy access to the faculty and faculty are willing to make time to work with students. Students can also get involved in research projects at the Bureau of Governmental Affairs which conducts research on issues of importance to state and local governments and non-profit organizations.
We hope you will find this website informative and that it provides answers to any question you might have about our program. If you want more information or need answers to any questions we hope you will contact me or any member of the core faculty.
Thank you for visiting our homepage.
Sincerely,
Jason L. Jensen Associate Professor and MPA Director
