Student Spotlight: Kaycee Fry
- Alpha Kappa Psi, Residential Assistant for the Business Living Learning Community (LLC), will be joining the Accounting Club next semester
- Fun Fact:
- I can drive a manual car, and I feel like a speed racer when I drive it. I also own a record player.
Driving a manual car isn’t the only talent of UND sophomore Kaycee Fry. She’s also quite gifted in the classroom.
Fry started taking accounting classes in high school and liked it so much that she decided, with the encouragement of a teacher, to make it her major in college. Fry participated in Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) in high school and through those organizations developed her love for accounting.
Cold Weather, Warm Welcome
When Fry came to UND for her tour, the weather wasn’t friendly, the people around her were.
“I toured UND in February. You know, coldest time of the year, and I just fell in love with the campus,” Fry said. “My tour guide seemed to know everybody when we were walking on the sidewalks, and I thought that was kind of neat, to have a big resource in the university, but also get to know people here.”
In her second year at UND, Fry is really enjoying UND and her professors.
“It’s been a blast. I love the professors, they are very hands-on and very engaged and committed to student success. I feel like they actually care about me as a person and not as a number,” said Fry.
Fry also enjoys the case competitions that she has been able to get involved in.
“Besides classwork, I think that having an education is a lot more than just going to classes and getting your grades. It’s about getting involved on campus through different clubs, organizations, and case competitions,” explained Fry.
She has already competed in the PWC Challenge case competition, and in the spring she will travel to Stetson University to compete in the Templeton Business Ethics Case Competition.
Fry is also thankful for some of the opportunities that UND has to offer.
“One thing that I really appreciate about UND is that a lot of the recruiters from the different firms come onto campus. We have our own career fair just for Accounting firms, which is great. You really don’t see that in a lot of different places in North Dakota,” said Fry.
Fry has been invited by Deloitte to participate in a summer leadership program in the summer of 2021. She also hopes to do an Accountancy Internship with one of the Big Four firms in the Twin Cities.
A Bright Future
As of right now Fry is working her way through the Accelerated Bachelor/Master of Accountancy Program. This will allow her to graduate in 2022 with her undergraduate and graduate degrees.
During her free time on campus, Fry enjoys going to UND Hockey games at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Fry is yet another UND student who understands the importance of the special people and environment that Grand Forks has to offer. “Every person that I’ve met here so far is willing to go the extra mile for everyone,” Fry said.
