MBA Curriculum Pre-Fall 2017
Portfolio Requirement
The MBA Program does not require an independent study, thesis or comprehensive exam. However, the graduate faculty do want to ensure students are graduating with a certain skill set, including the following learning goals:
- Students will be integrated/interdisciplinary thinkers.
- Students will be effective communicators.
- Students will be skilled in critical thinking and decision-making, as supported by an appropriate use of analytical and quantitative techniques.
The Assurance of Learning (AoL) Committee measures if students are meeting the goals by requiring each MBA student keep a portfolio assignment for the eight core MBA courses (ACCT 509, ECON 506, FIN 501, ISBC 510, MGMT 501, MGMT 515, MGMT 585 and MRKT 510). In the portfolio, students should include an ungraded copy of the portfolio assignment. The portfolio does not have any certain requirements for binding, but it is suggested to separate the courses with a page divider or label and put all eight portfolio projects in a binder.
During your final semester of study, you will be required to make a 20 minute professional presentation to a faculty group of three. During the middle of the semester, you will be contacted with options to choose from for the time of your presentation. The presentation should be 20 minutes and a PowerPoint is appropriate. During the presentation, you should hand in your portfolio. The portfolio and presentation are not optional requirements and are stated under the Final Examination section in the 2011-2013 University of North Dakota Academic Catalog, on page 275.
Final Examination
The requirement of the final examinations for the M.B.A. degree is satisfied by the successful completion of Management 585, Advanced Strategic Management. In addition, students are required to make an oral assurance of learning presentation during their last semester of study. Students must maintain an assurance of learning portfolio through their program of study that is turned in during the oral presentation.
Students are required to submit an assignment from the following core courses:
- Accounting 509
- Economics 506
- Information Systems & Business Communications 510
