Research
Where inquiry drives leadership, policy, and performance.
At the Nistler College of Business & Public Administration we are committed to fostering a vibrant research environment for our faculty and students to excel.
A core component of our research mission is to develop opportunities for students to engage in the exciting endeavor of pursuing research on their own or with faculty.
We insist that our students be trained by the very best. We have brought together a community of world class scholars who are leading experts in their respective disciplines.
Published Faculty
Our faculty are active scholars who shape their fields through impactful research. They publish in leading academic journals, share their work at respected regional, national, and international conferences, and contribute to the profession by serving on editorial boards and participating in influential scholarly networks.
Many of our researchers collaborate across disciplines, engaging with areas of excellence that distinguish UND—strengths that bring business and public administration perspectives into broader university-wide initiatives. By contributing their expertise to multidisciplinary research teams, our faculty advance work in key areas such as autonomous systems, energy and the environment, rural health, and regional economic development.
Faculty from our college—and across campus—also partner through the Institute of Policy and Business Analytics (IPBA), located within our new building. IPBA serves as a vital hub for pursuing external research funding and demonstrating the importance of evidence-based insights in informing public policy. Together, we amplify the societal impact of our research mission and support meaningful progress for North Dakota and beyond.
Gain Research Experience
A core component of our research mission is to develop opportunities for students to engage in the exciting endeavor of pursuing research on their own or with faculty.
Our students have served as research interns in programs such as the Energy Hawks and with state agencies like the ND Department of Commerce. They also work directly with faculty on research projects and have presented their work at conferences and seminars.
Industry Collaboration
At Nistler College, we also deeply value industry collaborations, entrepreneurial outreach, and commercialization activities.
The Center for Business Engagement and Development (CBE&D), which is an important part of our college and housed right here at Nistler Hall works to foster small businesses in our state. They provide our faculty and students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and efforts to advancing the regional business environment. At the same time, the CBE&D is a source of data and other resources that aid faculty/student research.
A Leading Business & Public Administration College in the Midwest
In the fall of 2022, the College of Business & Public Administration moved into Nistler Hall, our new $70 million home designed to elevate our research mission and expand opportunities for student discovery. The building features state-of-the-art facilities that support collaboration, innovation, and high-impact scholarship.
Our advanced seminar and conference spaces are equipped with the latest technology to support both in-person and virtual academic engagement. These venues have helped cultivate a vibrant research culture, hosting regular seminars, lectures, and visits from distinguished scholars across the country and around the world.
Nistler Hall also includes flexible research spaces that can be adapted for behavioral experiments, serve as polling centers, and support a wide range of applied and interdisciplinary projects.
