Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
The Nistler College of Business & Public Administration at the University of North Dakota proudly participates in the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, offering free, high-quality tax preparation services to individuals and families throughout the community.
Support
Supported by the Internal Revenue Service and staffed by trained, IRS-certified student volunteers, the Nistler College’s VITA site provides an invaluable service to those who need assistance filing their tax returns—especially individuals who earn $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and taxpayers with limited English proficiency.
About VITA
For more than 50 years, the VITA program has helped millions of Americans file accurate tax returns at no cost. At UND, the Nistler College extends this mission by combining community service with experiential learning. Students gain hands-on experience applying their accounting and tax knowledge in real-world settings, while clients benefit from personalized support in a welcoming and confidential environment.
Each return prepared through the VITA program undergoes a quality review to ensure accuracy, and every volunteer meets or exceeds IRS standards for training, ethics, and confidentiality.
