Experiential Learning

At UND's Department of Marketing, students do more than study marketing—they put it into practice. Through hands-on projects with local businesses and organizations, students work on real marketing challenges and see the results of their ideas firsthand. From creating marketing plans and analyzing consumer behavior to developing digital campaigns for real clients, experiential learning is a key part of the student experience.

Learning extends beyond the classroom through internships, industry competitions, community partnerships, and networking opportunities with marketing professionals. These experiences help students build practical skills, gain confidence, and prepare for successful careers in the fast-paced world of marketing.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

Students have access to a wide range of opportunities that connect classroom learning with real-world experience, including:

Internships and Cooperative Education

Students gain valuable professional experience through internships and cooperative education opportunities. These experiences help them develop workplace skills, explore career paths, and build industry connections.

Community Engagement

Through class projects and partnerships with local businesses and nonprofit organizations, students apply marketing and sales concepts while making a positive impact in the community.

Student Organizations

Students can get involved in organizations such as Marketing Club, Sales Club, DECA, and Women in Business. These groups provide opportunities to develop leadership skills, expand professional networks, and participate in hands-on learning activities.

Competitions

Marketing and sales competitions allow students to test their skills against peers from across the country and around the world. These experiences build confidence, enhance resumes, and provide valuable industry exposure.

Alumni and Industry Connections

Through guest speakers, the Executive in Residence program, Marketing Power Lunch events, and the Marco Sales Workshop, students gain insight from experienced professionals and learn about current industry trends and career opportunities.

Industry-Recognized Certifications

Marketing and sales courses incorporate professional certifications that help students strengthen their skills and stand out in today's competitive job market.
