Scholarships
The Department of Political Science & Public Administration, through the generous support of friends who have established endowments with the UND Alumni Foundation, is able to offer several undergraduate scholarships each academic year.
Recipients must be Political Science or Public Administration majors. Preference is given to students in their junior year, who will be seniors in the next academic year. Other criteria, as specified by the donors, apply to each scholarship. General information is below.
Applications for most UND scholarships are consolidated through the central scholarships site. Declared Political Science and Public Administration (undergraduate) majors will see the department's scholarships as part of their eligibility portfolio. For AY20-21, the Scholarship Central portal is open from November 1 to March 1.
Adrian R. Dunn Memorial Scholarship
Adrian R. Dunn was a UND graduate and champion of education in North Dakota. This scholarship honors his memory. The selected student will be studying Political Science and Communications, with preference given to joint Political Science and Communications majors.

The Dr. Ronald Pynn Scholarship is funded through a gift from retired PSPA faculty member Ron Pynn. The selected student will show excellence and leadership in the study of Political Science or Public Administration. Preference may be given to former North Dakota Girls State delegates or students interested in under-served or under-represented groups.
Milton R. Young Memorial Scholarship
The Milton R. Young Memorial Scholarship honors the late Senator's commitment to North Dakota and is intended to encourage the ideals of public service. The selected student must be a North Dakota resident.
Truman Scholarship Award
The Nistler College of Business and Public Administration has a long tradition of acclaimed Truman Scholarship winners dating back to 1978 with UND Students awarded scholarships most recently in 2011 and 2016.
The Truman Scholarship Foundation was established by Congress in 1975 as the federal memorial to our thirty-third President. The Foundation awards scholarships for college students to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in government or elsewhere in public service. The activities of the Foundation are supported by a special trust fund in the US Treasury. There have been 2730 Truman Scholars elected since the first awards were made in 1977.
Students are elected by sixteen independent selection panels on the basis of leadership potential, intellectual ability, and likelihood of 'making a difference.' Each Scholarship provides up to $30,000 for graduate study. Scholars also receive priority admission and supplemental financial aid at some of the premier graduate institutions, leadership training, career and graduate school counseling, and special internship opportunities within the federal government. Recipients must be US citizens, have outstanding leadership potential and communication skills, be in the top quarter of their class, and be committed to careers in government or the not-for-profit sector.
The Nistler College of Business & Public Administration is proud to acknowledge the great accomplishments of our Truman Scholarship Winners as well as the well-established tradition from our distinguished Alumni.
