Academic Warning, Suspension, Dismissal Policies
Undergraduate Academic Warning, Suspension, and Dismissal Policy
Academic Warning
Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. If they fail to do so at the end of any term, they will be placed on Academic Warning. An advisor hold will be placed on their record, which will be removed after meeting with their academic advisor.
BPA Students on Academic Warning must:
- Meet with their Academic Advisor twice within the semester:
- First Meeting: Within the first four weeks, bring a self-evaluation of the previous semester.
- Second Meeting: Before registration for the next semester.
- The hold will remain until both meetings are completed.
Suspension
Students on Academic Warning who earn less than a 2.0 term GPA will be suspended. Suspended students may apply for reinstatement after one semester's absence. To return, they must seek approval from the Dean of their college and readmission from the Office of the Registrar.. If reinstated, they will return on Academic Warning status and may have additional enrollment stipulations.
Immediate Reinstatement
Under extenuating circumstances, students may seek immediate reinstatement without leaving the University for a semester. This request must be made at least one week before the start of the semester.
Dismissal
After the first suspension, failure to meet academic standards will result in dismissal. Dismissed students may apply for readmission after a minimum of one year, providing evidence of academic potential and a plan for success. Applications must be submitted at least 30 days before the desired semester.
Appeals
Students may appeal suspensions or dismissals if they believe these actions were due to circumstances beyond their control. Appeals must be made within 30 days to the University Senate Student Academic Standards Committee.
Suspension and dismissal are permanently recorded on the student's transcript. It is possible to be in Good Academic Standing at the University but not in certain programs requiring a higher GPA
