The Herr School of Accountancy provides exceptional opportunities for students to engage in experiential learning.

Accounting Club
The University of North Dakota Accounting Club is an academic organization that provides many opportunities to students both on and off campus.The aim of the club is to provide educational, social, and networking events for students.
Beta Alpha Psi (BAP)
Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals.
The purpose of Beta Alpha Psi is to recognize outstanding academic achievements in the field of accounting, finance, and information systems, promote the study and practice of professional fields related to these disciplines, provide opportunities for self-development and association among members and practicing financial professionals, and encourage a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibilities.
VITA
The VITA courses (Acct 417 & 517) requires students to:
- Receive IRS training on preparing individual’s federal income tax returns.
- Receive an IRS Certification.
- Prepare federal tax returns for individuals in the community.
Fall Nistler College Career Fair
Every fall semester Accounting Firms and businesses come to the University of North Dakota to promote careers within accounting to our students.
Spring Field Trip
In the spring, accountancy students have the opportunity to travel to Minneapolis to visit recruiters in Minneapolis.
Accounting 160
In this introductory course students learn about careers within the accounting profession. Students are introduced to skills and resources to help them get started with accounting.
Internships
Students are able to gain practical experience through their accounting internships with dedicated Accountancy faculty members to help find and receive credit for internships. Students intern at places such as: the Big Four, Hormel, the FDIC, Microsoft and national and regional public accounting firms.
Case Competitions
The Herr School of Accountancy offers many case competitions for students to be involved in such as: PWC “Challenge” Case Competition, Eller Ethics Case Competition, and the Student Blockchain Challenge.
